This is just a short note. We will fill you all in tomorrow, we promise!
We had our meeting at the SDA and looked through 9 referrals and settled on one in the Donetsk region. It is a nine hour drive Southeast, and with the weekend coming up we will leave on Sunday morning, so we can go to the orphanages first thing Monday morning. We updated the map on top of this blog so you can see where Donetsk is.
For those of you that are waiting anxiously for what our referral is for, are you sitting down? Three siblings - two boys (ages 4 and 7) and a girl (5 years old). Most of you are probably saying “OH MY GOD“? We have been saying the same thing for the last day and a half. It’s like the Barth Brady Bunch! We have thought very seriously about it and are praying that GOD is leading us this way. This is why the delay in letting you know, as we weren’t totally sure about this decision. We have been considering this VERY carefully.

I feel like I've become a very proud aunt. Congratulations! Like you said - very scary!! You both should feel very proud. Not many people in this world would go to the other side of the world to become parents of three children in need. Both of you have become my heros. God Bless your new family. I can't wait to see pictures.

Hi Ed and Laura,
One thing I've always felt while we were in the adoption stage was that EVERY child needs a good home no matter how big or small they are. They didn't ask to be in an orphanage. All any of them want is to have a place they can call their home.
Trust me, when you see all of the children in the orphanage you are going to want to take them all away with you and they are all going to want you to take them also.
You may want to buy a bag or two of candy to bring for all of the kids in the group(s) as a nice welcome. They almost look for this from adopting parents.
From the looks of things if these children are meant to be your Forever Family then I guess we won't have too much time to talk on the telly anymore. LOL! :)

My husband and I adopted three children from Crimea in August 2005. We put our faith in God and God blessed us with three amazing kids. I wish you the best and am looking forward to following your journey.
You both have some free time to your selves so take advantage of it until you leave on Sunday for your long 9 hour journey.
Play a lot of games, watch DVD's or even correcting the grammer in your Blog (Laura)?
Have fun whatever you do but relax before your trip.

This is an exciting adventure, isn't it? I hope you brought lots of movies and books to help pass the time. There is a book store in the underground mall in Kyiv ---not far from the McDonalds---with a few shelves of English-language novels. You might want to stock up! Try to remember which color blue cap you want for your bottled water (light blue, dark blue, one is fizzy, ugh).
I hope you are taking lots of pictures. Will we get to see them? Hint hint.

I found your blog by chance today. My husband and I are also in the process of adopting from Ukraine (waiting to submit at SDA).
What exciting news for you! I pray that God gives you a peace about your decisions and gives you safe travels. If these 3 children are what He has planned for you, He will make it abundantly clear and you will be blessed immeasurably by them!

Well it's been almost 24 hours since I've heard your wonderful news and I have had all 5 of you on my mind constantly. It is a bit of a shock to absorb it all but it is wonderful. I'm just a little disappointed that I only got you 2 Yankee t shirts. But, of course, I can get more. Good luck on your trip to the region. I hope you take tons of pictures. I can't imagine all the emotions you both are having right now but remember that everyone here is pulling for you.

Hi Laura, John & Tara, It's been quite a while since we've talked. Everything here is going great. The kids are growing up much too fast for my sake. I wish I could put them on hold for a while. They are 13 & almost 9 now, can you believe that?? It seems like we were just on our way to Ukraine yesterday. Where does the time go????

Laura & Ed, now I know how my Mom felt when we were in Ukraine. She told me she was sitting by the computer night and day just to hear from us. I do understand that you are probably doing a lot of running around just doing lots of paperwork and stuff.
Did you meet any other English speaking couples that you can enjoy each others company with? Share stories and events with? What to do and what to see questions?
We are thinking about you all everyday, we can't seem to think about anything except hope you come home with the dream of a lifetime.

Ahhhh - I am going crazy waiting to hear from you both. I've been searching the Internet about Donetsk and am learning a lot about the region - and beautiful pictures also.
I feel like an expectant parent on pins and needles. I know you are VERY BUSY - otherwise you would have written - but I can't wait to hear about your journey and how it is going. This has been one of the most frustrating time I think I've ever had. Between email and phone calls we can always get in touch quickly - so this is maddening.
